NEON GRID: OUTBREAK

How to Play NEON GRID: OUTBREAK

NEON GRID: OUTBREAK is a free top-down zombie survival shooter that runs in your browser. You never aim or press fire: you only move, and your soldier shoots the nearest zombie automatically. The skill is in where you stand, which crate you take, and how long you can keep the horde off you.

There is no pickup button. Walking over a supply crate takes it.

Waves and bosses

A run starts with a short contact phase, then zombies come in waves. Each wave has quiet moments, steady pressure and a surge near the end. After waves 6, 11 and 14 a boss arrives, and the map changes after each boss (street, mall, laboratory). Survive longer and the horde grows. Late in a run the pressure ramps up again, so a long run is always a race.

Supply crates: take one, lose two

When a wave ends, three crates drop. Walk over one to take it and the other two shatter, so choose with your current build in mind. If you take none within about 10 seconds, the whole set disappears. Crates give you:

The more notches on a crate's lid, the rarer its contents. Medkits and grenades also drop on the field and are collected automatically. You can unlock extra weapons (Flamethrower, Grenade Launcher, Arc Coil) with parts earned from runs.

Zombie types

Zombie

The basic walker. Harmless alone, dangerous in a crowd.

Sprinter

Fast and fragile. Keep moving and let your weapon do the work.

Brute

Slow and heavy. Do not let it corner you.

Charger

Shows a warning line, then rushes along it. Step out of the line.

Bloater

Bursts when killed and leaves a hazard behind. Kill it at range.

Bosses

Giant Charger, Riot Captain and the Endgame Charger. Watch the lane and the shield: damage is higher while a boss is stunned and lower against its shield.

Tips for a longer run

  1. Keep moving in circles. Standing still for about 5 seconds draws a shell onto your position.
  2. Read red marks. Every area attack is shown on the ground before it hits.
  3. Pick a weapon branch and stick to it. Levelling one branch beats spreading across several.
  4. Stay clear of edges. Open space gives you room to dodge chargers.
  5. Chase the airdrop that appears on odd waves from wave 3: stand inside its circle to capture it.
  6. Avoid damage for 45 seconds after the 1:00 mark for a bonus grenade supply and a better next crate offer.

Normal and Hard

Normal is the difficulty for the global leaderboard. Survive 5 minutes on Normal to unlock Hard, which has faster zombies, more chargers and fewer safety nets, but earns more parts.
